As many people learning to code know, its really frustrating and just straight up tough. It’s especially frustrating when you don’t see the final result right away, so I thought by writing everything out it will help ease the mind. Also, I wanna show and prove that you can learn just about anything you want, even under marijuana substance (as long as its not an absurd amount).
I first wanted to develop apps, and that was the route I wanted to go towards with programming. After doing some research I found that App Academy had posted their full course for free online this year, so I dove head first at that. I hated it.
Im sure this was a great resource for many, but the teaching style of the course just wasn’t for me. Also, I was like half way into it and realized they were teaching me a programming language (Ruby) that no one was using anymore. That very same minute is when I quit App Academy.
That same day, I did some more research and found that Python programming language was probably better suited for me. I decided to buy a Python Udemy course for $10 — these courses are amazing for the value, they go through everything in a easy to follow manner. This course really taught me the basic rules of programming like lists, dictionaries, tuples, and loops. I started enjoying programming. By the way, most of this learning was done before work, after work, and on my weekends, as I still had a full time job. Who says Marijuana makes you lazy?
While taking this course, I realized I wanted to work in data science instead of app development. So I bought another $10 Udemy course, “The complete data science bootcamp”. As of now I finished the Python (yes, I did the python portion again just to make sure I really understood it), and the math sections (Algebra and Stats) as well. I learned a bit about the Numpy, Pandas, Seaborn, Matplotlib, and Sci-Kit models, BUT, I definitely have to go over these models again.
Today, I got a good understanding about how simple and multiple regressions work (having a b.s. in economics helps with this), and so I thought it was a good time to transition to a new course I have been wanting to do for a while now.
Coursera’s machine learning course taught by Stanford professor Andrew Ng. The first couple weeks is about regressions so that’s why I thought it was a good time to transition.
I started this course today and learned about the difference between supervised and unsupervised learning. As well as the difference between a categorical problem and a regression problem. So this is where I am as of today and I’m excited for this course. Writing this down hopefully makes me stick with this course for its entirety.
Everything I learned as of now in regards to programming, 85% of the time I was under the influence of marijuana. Again, not too much, but enough to keep the brain wired and focused.
Use that marijuana paranoia in a positive way. I usually get paranoid that I’m not learning enough or doing enough to better my future, so I then start to watch videos on programming concepts, read, or watch smart people talk on YouTube.
Stay trippy. But learn.
